At Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, two destinies meet: Ferdinand Berthoud, a Swiss-born Enlightenment master watchmaker, and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-chairman of Chopard, thanks to their shared passion for precision timepieces.

During the Age of Discovery, France was conquering distant lands, and maritime chronometry was a means to that end. For a clockmaker, accuracy was a responsibility. The regularity of Ferdinand Berthoud's ship's clocks, used by naval vessels during their travels around the world, was vital to ensuring that ships and their crews stayed safely on course. After writing several articles on timepieces for the Encyclopédie by Diderot and d'Alembert, Berthoud then wrote a number of works on the measurement of time, revealing the progress of his research. Today, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud takes his work just as seriously and honors a legacy fundamental to fine watchmaking.

In 2006, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele acquired the rights to the name Ferdinand Berthoud, who was appointed watchmaker-mechanic in the French Navy under Louis XV. Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud has revived the legacy of this great name and since 2015 has built an illustrious reputation for crafting exclusive in-house calibers and technologically exceptional timepieces, which have won some of the highest awards at international watch salons.

This book immerses the reader in the world of Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship and explores the brand's meticulous craftsmanship, technical innovations and unwavering dedication to chronometric and aesthetic perfection. Assouline's coffee table book "Ferdinand Berthoud: The Quest for Precision" invites watch lovers and connoisseurs to appreciate the timeless artistry of this luxury brand's limited edition handmade masterpieces, including the recently unveiled Naissance d'une Montre 3.
