With a special focus on his three-dimensional work, the coffee table book "Keith Haring in 3D" offers a fresh look at the work of Keith Haring - one of the world's most beloved contemporary artists.
From the moment he arrived in New York in 1978, Keith Haring used three-dimensional objects - whether discarded items on the street, household appliances or walls on the subway - as his atypical canvas. From cars to vases, refrigerators and even a sarcophagus, these objects were often a rich source of inspiration for collaborations with contemporaries such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf and LA2 (Angel Ortiz).
By also applying his unmistakable style to clothing, sets and bodies, he inspired creative collaborations beyond the confines of the art world: Herring collaborated with Grace Jones, Bill T. Jones, Madonna and Annie Leibovitz, among others, whom Herring photographed during a now-famous photo session in which he used his own body as a canvas and painted himself to blend into an elaborate 3-D environment. Although his career was short-lived, Keith Haring's sculpture formed an important and integral part of his extensive body of work, with three-dimensional artworks found in museums and art collections around the world.
The book "Keith Haring in 3D" highlights this rarely explored dimension of Haring's work and its role in his lasting legacy. The book's generous format and attractive design, with more than 350 illustrations, invites readers to immerse themselves in the world Haring created. With archival photographs of Haring at work, stunning reproductions of his art in three dimensions and a wealth of essays by respected curators, scholars and collectors, Keith Haring in 3D celebrates in stunning detail the vibrant, brilliant work of one of the world's most iconic artists.
