For decades, the world’s perception of Afghanistan has been shaped by conflict. Yet the country’s story is also one of remarkable diversity, centuries-old traditions, and everyday acts of humanity. The coffee-table book *Afghanistan* is both a visual chronicle and a personal journey, inviting readers to discover the country through a lens of curiosity, dignity, and shared humanity.

The book *Afghanistan*, which took shape over the course of several years and numerous trips, is a deeply personal project by the Afghan-American visual artist Daniel Malikyar. Through more than 130 photographs and a series of accompanying essays, the book offers an intimate portrait of the people, landscapes, and cultures that have long existed beyond the narratives typically associated with the country.

Malikyar traveled on his own through remote areas and documented communities that are rarely photographed by outsiders. He captured moments marked by trust and a shared heritage, thereby revealing a side of Afghanistan that is rarely seen.
